Colder weather is coming, and you want to be prepared with all of the right items for your baby to be comfortable and happy. We get it! You want the best for your little one, and having all of the best cold-weather essentials on hand is sure to give you the peace of mind you’re looking for.
Take a look at some of our go-to’s for fall and winter with your baby!
1. Car Seat Cover
Having a car seat cover is going to be a major lifesaver in cold weather. Easily protect your baby from rain, snow, and wind by putting a protective cover over their car seat while you’re out and about.
It can be stressful thinking about going outside with your baby. A car seat cover can easily ease your mind and help you feel more comfortable braving the cold with your little one.
2. Warm Sleep Sack
Creating the ideal setting for your baby to go to sleep is going to make a big difference in how well the night goes, and a sleep sack can play a big part. Sleep sacks are a fantastic and safe way to keep your little ones nice and cozy while they sleep, providing the same warmth and comfort that comes from a blanket, just more contained.
3. Cozy Pajamas
Another huge part of keeping your baby cozy during those winter nights? The right pajamas! Choose something that provides comfort for baby and simplicity for you (because let’s be real, getting through those midnight diaper changes as quickly as possible is a must!)
That’s why we love knotted baby gowns. Super stretchy and warm for your little one, super easy diaper changes for you. It’s a huge win-win. What’s even better is that knotted gowns will last longer than footed pajamas because of the longer length.
4. Indoor Play Mat
With the lower temperatures, you’re going to be spending more time inside, so make sure you’re prepared with fun things to keep your little one occupied. Depending on how old your baby is, a play mat could be just the thing to keep them happy and entertained.
Look for a play mat that has plenty of fun colors and textures to keep your little one entertained and intrigued, as well as toys that hang down so invite them to practice reaching out for things that catch their eye.
5. Humidifier
One of the main things you’ll want to look out for during the winter is dryness around your little one’s nose and lips, and their skin in general. A humidifier is an easy way to help give your baby the moisture they need for plump, healthy skin. Additionally, a humidifier can help clear up cold and flu symptoms.
6. A Well-Stocked Baby Medical Kit
Speaking of cold and flu symptoms, winter is the prime time for sickness. It’s not something we want to think about as moms, but it’s best to be prepared with a well-stocked baby medicine cabinet. The basics include a baby thermometer, a nasal aspirator, baby cold medicine, and baby Tylenol.
7. Baby Lotion
Another easy way to keep your baby’s skin healthy is to regularly apply baby lotion. This is good to do any time of the year, but especially during the colder months when things tend to get dryer. If you notice your baby’s skin is getting especially dry, try looking for a moisturizing baby lotion or ointment.
8. Fuzzy Booties
Keep those toes warm and toasty with a pair of cozy, fuzzy booties! It can be tough convincing a baby to keep a pair of shoes or socks on, especially when they’re only a few months old. That pesky footwear always seems to fall off.
That’s why we love these fleece booties. They have velcro straps to keep the booties securely on your baby’s foot, keeping them warm and keeping you from having to continuously search for lost socks.
9. Winter Coat
A winter coat is going to serve you very well during the colder months of the year. Consider having two coats on hand – one big, puffy, ultra-warm coat for longer outdoor activities, such as snow play or sledding, and then one thinner coat for shorter spurts outdoors, such as trips from the car into the grocery store.
10. Cold Weather Accessories
You know what I’m talking about. Knit hats. Warm mittens. Maybe a scarf depending on how old your baby is. A coat will do a lot of the work when it comes to keeping them warm, but their little ears and fingers will need some extra coverage.
11. Stroller Cover
Whether you’re wanting to get out for a walk around the block or you’re taking advantage of fun, outdoor family activities (hello pumpkin patches and Christmas lights!), there are going to be times when your baby is in the stroller, and you’ll want to keep them nice and warm.
Make sure you have a stroller cover on hand to keep them protected from the cold. Most stroller covers are also designed to be waterproof, so if you experience any unwanted rain or snow, your baby will be protected by that, as well.
12. Cozy Bedding
Keep your little one happy for their nap and during the night with some soft, cozy bedding. The quality and material of your crib mattress cover will make a huge difference for your baby, so make sure you have something super cozy for them. Fleece or Minky are both good options.
13. Baby Wipe Warmer
Those cold baby wipes can be a shock for your baby even during the warm days of summer, so as winter approaches, it might be a good idea to invest in a baby wipe warmer. It keeps those baby wipes at a comfortable temperature, making diaper changes and post-meal face cleaning much more bearable for your child.
14. A Snuggly Blanket
Everyone loves a soft, snuggly blanket, and your baby will especially love it during those chilly months. It could be as small as a handheld lovey or as large as a full-sized blanket. There are tons and tons of options, so find a cute design that they can love as they grow.
15. Quality Boots
If your baby is walking, you will want to get some high-quality snow boots so that they can enjoy the snow to the fullest! By the time those April showers come around, they might be able to serve as rain boots, as well.
Don’t let the stress of cold weather get in the way of having fun with your little one! Get ready to make some incredible memories together as the colder months come closer.
